La Caleta means 'The Little Cove

La Caleta means 'The Little Cove', and it can also mean a coastal hamlet. There is more than one place with the same name on Tenerife but the La Caleta that is the best-known is in the south of the island.

La Caleta is up the coast from Playa de las Américas and in the past was a small fishing village; however, it is fast transforming itself into a very popular seaside resort.  It has its own beach and is situated just up the coast from the Bahía del Duque on the Costa Adeje in Tenerife’s sunny south.  The village tends to attract the more discerning type of tourists. People who want to get away from the bustle and who can appreciate the tranquillity that La Caleta provides.

La Caleta means “The Little Cove”

La Caleta looks out over the Atlantic Ocean and offers a choice of some of the best seafood restaurants on Tenerife. Up in the northwest of the island there is another village called La Caleta, which is also very charming, but it is very different to its southern counterpart.  La Caleta de Interián, to give it its full name, is on the coast between Garachico and Los Silos and has a signpost showing where it is. Banana plantations flank the village.

La Caleta in the north has a long seafront promenade and several beaches. The main one is known as Playa de la Caleta and is popular with sunbathers although it is mainly covered in grey pebbles. Local surfers enjoy the beach too. There is not a lot in La Caleta de Interián, which is mainly streets full of houses, however, you will find several restaurants, bars, shops, a post office, and a church and traditional Spanish square.

On Tenerife you can take your choice of La Caleta in the south or north of the island.
